Pros

Wish I could find one - but there are none. Its pure evil how they treat and value people.

Cons

Its has all the makings of a Horror Movie working at ESL every day. Stress, terror, night sweats, people being slashed daily, backstabbing, fear, evil, and anxiety. All we need is Freddie Kruger. Waite, we do have a crazy Leader that loves slashing employees with his mindless, weak, wimp zombie managers that only can say yes. ESL is extremely fire-happy. Does not know how to develop employees but would rather replace them constantly.. Its sad but ESL management just do not care. Its all about a spreadsheet, numbers and goals. You as an employee are just another number in the slashing. Members are not viewed as customers but seen as predatory targets only to make goals. Its Goals that come first not members. Many of the back office employees can portray themselves as your friends but in reality they are not. They can turn on you in a moment. Its all part of the evil and sick culture that has been created by management. I have learned not to trust any one at ESL. If you have any christian values you will never fit in here. Its impossible. Evil Thrives here - Good does not. ESL is a nightmare. Regardless of how much you need a job, do not take a position at this Credit Union.

Pros

The high turnover rate means there are naturally lots of young people (I was in mid-twenties, so I did meet a lot of cool coworkers). That could be a good or bad thing depending on your age. All of us hated working at ESL and being there every day. Dealing with the public and how management treated us did bond us together. That's about the only positive thing I can think of.

Cons

The culture is horrible. The sales pressure is very high with no recognition. Senior management will bring in there own people/friends/relatives at any expense. You will go no place. They have a click inside ESL and you are in or out. Its almost like a cult. If you do not fit in you will be forced out the door. I was still pretty new to the working world at the time, but I could tell that what they were doing here was wrong on many levels. Almost every person ranked higher talks down to you. Promotions after a certain point are only given to the brown noses, so you have to watch your back sometimes, but you should find out quick who those people are. None of them were any smarter. They like to market themselves as a non-profit that cares about its members, but the ones at the top are just as corrupt as Bernard Madoff and company. Great work places do not have very high turnover, horrible management, lots of upper managers collecting dust, forced to make goals, stress, low pay, no advancement, watch your back, corrupt management and I could go on and on.

Pros

ESL cares about people and is a successful, vibrant company with a fantastic reputation. Employees have great pride in working at ESL as evidenced by the employee survey response to the Great Place to Work survey. If employees didn't love it, ESL wouldn't win this prestigious national award. Coming to ESL was the best career decision I ever made.

Cons

None. I cannot complain about the overall experience and feel fortunate to work here. While it may not be a perfect place, ESL does listen to employees and make improvements on an on-going basis.
