Pros

Great Benefits and training. Now what good are they if you are gone in a year or less? Great place to work, top 125 in training and American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) BEST Competition recognized ESL for our results in building talent and providing tools and technology for success. Again its all talk. Sounds like someone in the HR department needs to show some accomplishments but the facts show its a poor place to work. For a price you can get any award for your company. This is America 2013. Its paid PR. Every day people are being fired or quiting at the Great place to work. Great place to work or not? How about training? If you are forced to make goals that are not attainable, can not trust anyone and will not be working for ESL for more than a year what good is the great training?Tools and technology for success? Successful people grow not exit companies in large. numbers.

Cons

Lots of Backstabbing, lots of managers , workers and supervisors in position that should have never been put in those positions. Lots of dead wood. Many waste hours a day while good workers get there butt chewed off and fired. How do you know who the duds are? Great question? The ones that are still working at ESL from 2006 and Before. The smart ones left one way or another. The duds stayed and are still milking their jobs.

Pros

There is the potential for great reward - as long as you're not in the call center, working the "help desk", or less than a manager at one of the branches. Pretty good benefits, new building downtown with it's own parking. Some very talented and dedicated people.

Cons

Sick culture. Constant backstabbing. You never know who is going to be terminated next. It's always someone, which causes a high degree of paranoia and "looking over your shoulder". Trust no-one, because almost no-one can be trusted. Arbitrary changes to departments, usually poorly planned.

Pros

The benefits at ESL were fabulous - health coverage (well, at least this year) was great because of the low cost to employee for top notch coverage. Training was very thorough for my position.

Cons

It was not honestly disclosed during the interviews and training sessions that a branch position is 100% sales based. No matter how much management tells you it's acceptable to be under goal as long as the members are happy - when it comes down to month end, you get your butt handed to you if you don't make it. You can get kudos from the members all day long, but look out if you fall below goal. ESL is good at 'dangling carrots' to get results, but if you have any sense of decency, you see through it pretty quickly. I found that my sense of right and wrong was tested by the need to meet goals to satisfy management. I loved helping my members, but could not in good conscience 'force' loans or long-term products to people simply to make myself look good. I found another job that truly allows me to help people without having to make myself look big for my boss' benefit. Less stress + not compromising my values = happier person.
