Pros
The company’s one big success as far as I can see is that they launched Zelle. I see this as a good pivot, the previous products had been around a long time and were stagnant and/or in maintenance mode. We had some pushes to introduce new tech, but that opportunity is only held by a lucky few. The software engineers are pros. The grind can be tough but most seemed to own it. You learn something new every once in a while, especially in the software security space.
Cons
Raises hardly keep up with inflation. Bonus stays fixed if you get a raise but not a promotion, i.e it is not a percentage of your salary. Some pockets of toxic culture, though I saw big improvements over the past 4 years. Engineers are not equipped with the tools to do their jobs(equipment, access to tools they need, empowerment to make decisions). This last bit is super important. Every team has 10 decision makers, and the little decision making left to the team, it always seemed that the one “supreme leader” (I.e. the biggest bully of the bunch) would make the needed decision. I’ve often wondered what some managers actually do. The Zelle pivot introduced a tremendous amount of friction within and across the orgs. I think the company was never equipped with the kind of leadership or culture for constant, iterative innovation. Constant barrage of invented emergencies and deadlines to remediate non-issues.
