Dear Reviewer, Thank you for taking time to offer your feedback. We are sorry that you have not experienced much positive outcomes as a new employee. Our People Team is diligently working to collaborate interdepartmentally with our Scholars Academies leaders and other EHTP members to ensure that we are building a stronger culture within our community, and that leaders feel set up to successfully facilitate and guide the teams they serve. One example of this is our initiative to roll out a 30-60-90 day check-in plan to receive more feedback from you, our staff, on how we can continue to improve your employee experience. We know that compensation can be tricky - there is a competitive market in the world of education and non-profit management and we want to ensure that our valued employees are being paid for what they're worth. That is why our Senior/Executive Leaders and our People Team are working tirelessly to consistently review how we can ensure folks are receiving compensation that is fair and just for the work that they do. Nonetheless, education is a field that requires one to typically work beyond the hours they are getting paid for, due to the nature in which we serve our school communities. Our hope is that folks find that they are truly making an impact on the students we serve, and that their work matters every single day. That is something that you cannot put a price on! If you wish to give more feedback on your employee experience, or you wish to offer suggestions on how we can strengthen our EHTP, we encourage you to share these thoughts with your School Leadership Team. Thanks again for your time - you are a valued, important member of our community and we hope to see positive changes for you in the near future!

Dear Reviewer, Thank you for taking the time out to provide feedback on your experience as a valued employee with us here at EHTP and with East Harlem Scholars Academies! As you may know, we work diligently to support our teachers and leaders with their professional development so that they feel most prepared to give 100% to the scholars we serve every day. We appreciate your feedback regarding work/life balance as well. We are ensuring that we prioritize honoring people's time outside of the workspace, as well as honoring evenings and weekends for people to take care of their personal matters and prioritize their self care. We strongly encourage all staff to take the time they need for their families and themselves outside of their professional space so that they may show up for our scholars in the best way. We are always open to feedback about how to create a better a work-life balance. If you have any direct suggestions, we strongly encourage you to communicate them to your school leadership team at your earliest convenience. On behalf of the EHTP People Team, we thank you for continuing to be a loyal, valued employee. We appreciate you and all you do for both our scholars and our East Harlem community!

Pros

- working with BIPOC who are mostly like-minded - the children

Cons

- aloof/intentionally blind/subjective “leadership” - poor turnover rate - unhappy staff - lack of upwards feedback so non leadership staff can feel voiceless - reactive and last minute - poor communication - summer PD was for show and career benefit of Rob Harvey. Nothing has been continued in the actual day to day of schools

Dear Reviewer, Thank you for your feedback. Our team receives your input with much consideration. We value our staff greatly here at EHTP and we take pride in ensuring that they have the full support they need to thrive and to reach our scholars. Your feedback regarding our leadership staff is important to us, and we will take this into consideration as we think about how to offer more support around professional development for our instructional staff and our school teams. We fully acknowledge and address that the COVID-19 pandemic has contributed to an increase in attrition & we acknowledge high turnover rates in charter school systems are typical. However, the Recruitment Team has been very strategic about setting new retention goals, as we are dedicated to celebrating, valuing and supporting our current and new staff members. One concrete example of this is that we have interviewed 99 newly hired staff members to retrieve feedback about onboarding and 90 day experience working with us here at EHTP. Based on the data we’ve collected from new hires we interviewed, nearly 100% of the staff reported that their ideas in the workplace are “accepted, considered and implemented.” We hope that this data will allow us to improve our best practices in our retention efforts and our support with the onboarding process at the start of hire. At EHTP and East Harlem Scholars Academies, we also acknowledge that the hours for primarily instructional staff are long, and staff members are typically expected to take on additional responsibilities during the school day that they were originally unaware of at the start of their hire. While there should be an understanding of any staff member that is newly hired that there’s a level of commitment that is expected from our staff, as reflected in the website and the thoroughly written job descriptions, the Recruitment Team is increasing their efforts to create new roles and hire staff for these roles for the current and upcoming school year so that teachers and other staff will have enough time to complete the work that is expected of them. Please see our job description for our Operations and Culture Assistant role here: https://boards.greenhouse.io/eastharlemtutorialprogram/jobs/3642438 Our summer professional development is meant to set the tone and framework for our upcoming year, and is intended to be lived out and embodied by all of our teachers and leaders as they approach their work and practice. We fully believe that continued professional development critical to our school teams is an extension of our Summer Build Days. Thank you again for your reflection. We hope you find this information useful. Please stay safe and be well!
