Solid Employment. Great Organization.

Pros

EHTP has a great mission and does very good work in the community. Pay and benefits are competitive with similar organizations in the area, and there is a good amount of paid time off which makes work-life balance very good. Professional development opportunities are very good too.

Cons

As a nonprofit, salaries may be a bit lower than they would be for similar positions with a more "corporate" organization. Health/vision/medical benefits are only available to full time staff.

Good way to start your career in an educational nonprofit

Pros

Annual salary increases Most colleagues are reliable and easy to get along with Anti-Racism professional development Scholars and families are the heart of the work Work from home opportunities for central staff

Cons

Annual salary increases vary tremendously in scale per year Long hours No room for promotions for certain roles, even after years of dedication to organization Workload is too much for the salary Quantity over quality is always pushed - the organization wants to grow at a pace that is faster than what it can handle, at the cost of its staff's well-being due to overload of work Work style and culture clashes between the charter schools and OST/Central teams No paid maternity leave

Good intention, good mission overshadowed by chaos

Pros

It's an okay entry into the nonprofit education sector if you're interested in that. The mission and overall objectives appear solid and worth being a part of. Most colleagues were great to work with. Anti-racism commitment and anti-racism coalition was a great opportunity to keep discussions around antiracism alive between scheduled PD days.

Cons

Management structure is chaotic and doesn't live up to its own goals of transparency. Some decisions seem to be made ad hoc without concern for long-term impact. Organizational structuring at home office is also unclear. Managers encourage everyone to speak up, but most times if your thoughts/opinions don't align with theirs they'll dismiss your voice outright. Benefits were so-so. General wellbeing of staff could've been better to keep up morale and overall office culture.

Pros

-Great staff culture -Great leaders, well qualified in MIDDLE-management level -Unique racial equity statement with dedication to the mission felt by ALL staff, not just instructional -School vacations for instructional and non-instructional staff -High community/family involvement

Cons

-Overworked...50-65 hour work week depending on when it's slow (50 hours) or busy (65-70 hours) -Underpaid with very few (if any) perks, i.e. no work from home days, most holidays are days you are required to work -Very little control over your own role, i.e your role can change without your say -Lack of consistency, EXTREMELY high staff turn over rate -Inexperienced leaders, leads to unprofessionalism, pettiness, and immaturity from upper management/school leaders. -Wants to be a data driven network but doesn't take into consideration the input of the data experts -Lack of transparency between school to school and between leaders and their staff -Lack of structure/vision leads to unavoidable late nights and weekend work. -Racial equity is very important for lower level staff but doesn't appear to be prioritized to the senior leaders/school leaders

Pros

EHTP is a wonderful place to work if you are interested in being in an entrepreneurial environment. Every staff member is committed to the young people of the community and dedicated to developing an anti-racist organization that centers on the well-being and success of our young people.

Cons

This is a place for passionate people. If you are someone who is looking for a 9:00-5:00 or someone who works best with 100% clearly outlined responsibilities, this may not be the place for you.

Pros

Staff members are very motivated, kind, and hard working. There are opportunities for promotions within your field if you stick around for long enough. The organization has a lot of money and will give you access to the materials that you need if requested.

Cons

Very long hours for similar compensation that is offered to those who do the same jobs for less hours in other institutions. Work comes home with you and consumes most of your time off. Favoritism is also very evident here and if you are not on the fortunate end of it, you and everyone else in the organization will be made known of it.
