Pros

I was at Edelman for over a year in their San Francisco office. My employment was entirely WFH and I never visited an office. Perks such as benefits and time off are industry average. Clients are top, depending on industry you work in, and you can get some good responsibility and experience early on. Colleagues are incredibly smart and hard-working – you definitely develop some "in-the-trenches" relationships.

Cons

Your day-to-day will depend entirely upon your team leads and client expectations. For me, despite the fact that it was never discussed in the job description / interviews nor stated in my orientation, that meant working a minimum of 1-2 weekends a month and being scheduled to work until 7pm every evening. This is not so bad if you are able to start later, but meetings were often scheduled (by the same people who told me they care about work-life balance!) in the 7am-8am period by colleagues across the country. It meant that taking PTO was silently discouraged because others would have to pick up these responsibilities. I also had to work holidays (including the company's tribute to International Mental Health Day, which all employees were supposed to have off). Overall, I was miserable at this job. My mental and physical health suffered. I discussed repeatedly with higher ups the long hours and high client expectations, as well as with HR, and promises that were repeatedly made to improve the situation were never fulfilled. A few months after leaving, I regret not making the decision to quit sooner. Overall, I would not recommend working at Edelman unless you're prepared to see the rest of your life suffer.

Pros

-learning to manage clients and more junior staff is good experience (though not unique to this agency) -good insurance benefits

Cons

-toxic, mean, gossip-y culture (my mental health and self esteem was wrecked for a while from this place) -little to no training provided -new business pitches are miserable to work on and usually recycle another pitch idea, not something that will actually solve a client need -unethical billing practices by senior leadership -horrible work-life balance; I had to stay in the office and work until nearly midnight on my birthday and then walk a few blocks alone to my car in an area that has frequent gun shots, thefts, and murders (unsafe office location) -revolving door of staff (20 people came and went on my team while I was there and I had seven managers in four years!) -this is the worst place I ever worked by far
