Pros

Edelman is a great place to start your career, get your experience, and get out. If you’re lucky, you will have one or two people on your team who are helpful and supportive.

Cons

There are lots of users here. A lot of the senior staff take advantage of the junior staff. At one point, I ran campaigns by myself while my supervisor did absolutely nothing. She would sit in meetings, say WE were going to do the work, then when we would get off the calls, make me do everything. No one ever says thank you when you complete a task, they just ask for more. I was severely overqualified for my role and no one ever advocated for me to get promoted. I’ve had coworkers who were emotionally abused by execs. This behavior would be reported to HR, but no one would do anything to help. These perpetrators have been here for years and years and believe this behavior is normal. After much turnover on my team, i’m proud to say that I’m finally out. Leaving this place has felt like I left a toxic relationship.

Pros

- The clients speak for themselves and the resume add - you have a lot of resources at your hands

Cons

- barriers to entry are high; I think of this place like an Ivy League - inaccessible and selective for the wrong reasons (ex. the referral model) - people who have been here “for life” tend to perpetuate the negative culture Edelman is known for - like lots of firms pay is low and hours are high; you’re expected to work at full capacity and if you don’t, people act like you’re not being productive - It’s a client over everything model - there’s a lot of senior staff this is preachy about taking breaks and time off while junior staff isn’t being paid a livable wage Edelman is like an exclusive club you want to get into and then you get in an realize it’s filled with nepotism and skating by on mediocrity

Pros

Edelman has a historically good reputation; company offers a lot of sick days that roll over

Cons

The vibe is very corporate feeling from the second you walk in the office. The overall compensation and benefits package is not competitive with the market. Leadership is gossipy and plays favorites. I would try to describe the culture, but there isn't one to speak of. HR and leadership are aware of the culture problems, but haven't done anything to address the issues over several months. Plans have been made, but not action was taken. We were told the "employees are supposed to create the culture", but it is hard to do that with no resources or support. As an employee, you don't feel valued or empowered, but instead feel extremely replaceable. People are leaving this office in droves and positions are not being backfilled, resulting in team members without managers, uneven workloads and total confusion on plans for teams.
