Pros

Excellent opportunities to grow and learn at this huge "mom and pop" consultancy. I love the intelligence, passion and commitment of the people I work with, and the challenging assignments keep me engaged. Edelman's IP offering is a huge enhancement, helping all associates connect as part of a larger global conversation and offering something truly unique and valuable to clients and other stakeholders.

Cons

It's a very, very political place. The path to promotion is unclear and byzantine. And senior management is sometimes slow to correct or remove under-performing group heads and other leaders. It doesn't necessarily impact work on a day-to-day basis, but this swirl can begin to feel frustrating, and become a significant time suck.

Pros

Edelman has a reputation of attracting the "best of the best" to work in an environment that is fast-paced, challenging, forward-thinking and engaging. Guess what? The reality lives up to the reputation. I am consistently impressed with the intelligence, competence, forward-thinking management and ideas my colleagues come up with. Senior management is approachable and open to ideas from employees at all levels - a welcome change from some other agency environments - and nearly everyone has a thirst for "more:" learning, living, doing. If you want to learn, to be challenged and see some great things brought to life, Edelman is an ideal place to call home.

Cons

At 500-600 employees, Edelman is one of the larger agencies in Chicago. It spans four floors in the AON center and, truthfully, that kind of change can be a little daunting. That said, management recognizes this and is working to provide smaller group orientations and practice meetings to help orient new hires. Additionally, employees work hard and long hours. Vacation isn't frowned upon, but can be difficult to schedule and take.

Pros

Ability to do things you may have never done before if you get a good account. Lots of variety of tasks, challenges and the opportunity to participate nominally in minor decision making.

Cons

No real teams here, rather it is individual competition within the team, Politics in the office is not the best way to help clients. Really poor leadership and stratified management style. Very Old School. There is definitely an inner circle, a need to know attitude and poor morale overall all. This agency is about billable hours and you better not forget it. You can grow there if you can get "in" with certain people, not by accomplishments. I was disappointed and disillusioned, They had good PR about their company, I chose them over another but regretted it within my first week.
