Pros

The company/environment is fine. Higher up people are fine. The ability to talk freely to management is there. No complaints from me about having to deal with too much interoffice BS.

Cons

As a sales rep, the training program does not touch at all on actual sales scenarios or strategies to get business. The attitude is that you will spend time working in the office, pick up some very basic product knowledge along the way, learn the basics of how things are done internally, learn the SAP system, and then when something opens up you get your shot. The stuff you learn in the office is very little help when you get out and try to open accounts. Upper management has this idea that somehow customers will pay more or be compelled to work with a Don rep over the 4 other competing guys simply because of the big name and "the best trained sales force in the industry". Sorry but as a new guy you simply won't be able to outclass the veteran competition and leaves you in a tough spot trying to win business. Also, the business model for a salesperson does not scale= you will have to work longer hours to do more work AKA you have to work that much more and not necessarily earn that much more.

Pros

If you work work work work you will be paid well! You better know your product line and how to sell in order to make the good money! Don't count on much help from your boss!

Cons

I have been thinking for a bit about the Ed. Don and Co. . Their sales are huge and hard to figure out where they are exactly but they have some new part owners now days. This is a sales company really they have things and ideas no one can touch but their sales-management team is terrible as noted in previous comments by salesmen who have left some very successful with Ed. Don. Why on earth would a company hire DSM or sales managers with no knowledge or experience in its company? I have seen a new salesman taken out to be trained by a DSM with no idea of what Ed. Don sells or how to sell its own product. Sales people are not stupid they pick up on this stuff right away and it kills salesmen off! Or then an experienced salesperson has to deal with such inexperience and people so soon the successful salesperson is killed off! People are promoted to key positions with no loyalty to Ed. Don.
