A job if you need money.

- coddles really bad employees. almost impossible to get fired. Only concerned with policy issues and behind- kissing, not performance. -Not paid for performance. -UN-SUPPORTIVE UPPER MANAGEMENT. - running company and making decisions based on employee complaints. -Employees not held accountable. If they complain to HR, they get their way. Spoiled kindergartners. They gossip, form "Super-clicks", and sabotage the store if they need to. Really Hostile environment. Retaliate. -Payroll is a joke. floral is being severely neglected and thrown away by incompetent upper management. Not a priority since new upper management started. Premades are not working. -Coupon policies a joke. Email collecting a joke and EMPLOYEES MAKE THEM UP!!! Same for S MG Surveys. They buy merchandise and take their own surveys. I've seen it happen. I really hope my comments don't get blocked, because I do believe in INTEGRITY. uppers cover butts. Its' not about HOW you get the numbers, as long as they "look" good. Want to hear more of the truth? Cashiers will read magazines if department managers let them. They are friends with each other. Not real managers, they are high school kids who have no work ethic. Smoke in front of store in front of customers. Bring their friends in to talk for hours at night when recovery is supposed to be going on. We wonder why we can't get it done. The bully, lazy managers make the ones they don't like do it for them. Really juvenile. Low pay, especially for top performing employees.

Some great co-workers, employee discount, on site office benefits including a gym and cafe for breakfast/lunch, full suite of employee benefits at reasonable prices

Ridiculous amount of stress. Retail in general is often stressful but the amount of stress at Michaels is unnecessary and over the top. Constant last-minute changes by leadership to creative, promotions, products, and any other kind of changes. Things will be finalized and signed off on and delivered, and somebody will make a change at the last minute and things are constantly having to be redone. People are worn down and worn out. It’s the highest turnover rate of any place I’ve worked in retail at the corporate office. I’ve seen people take jobs and be gone within weeks. Leadership in some departments are extremely micromanaging and controlling even with employees that are tenured and have multiple years of experience. The stress level for both tenured and new employees is very high. Projects get discussed over and over and over again, decisions are made and then revisited again after decisions were made making delivery late and causing people to work unnecessarily in order to fix things that could’ve been done correctly the first time. The company tries really hard to make the workplace fun and offer activities, motivation, and incentives. Unfortunately they don’t offset what the environment is like working inside with some of the teams and expectations to actually deliver the work. Would not recommend.
