Pros

Interesting industry and the opportunity to make decent commission as in any sales job. Much higher opportunity in field during trade shows.

Cons

Unorganized startup. Benefits were overpromised during interview. Hourly pay but sometimes includes weekend work and/or travel in this role with partial accommodations. Commission was never finalized in a timely manner and the process is not streamlined. The comp plan changed often so the calculations were often incorrect and only resolved at the very last minute. That team is very understaffed along with billing and admin. It was a very transactional sale most of the time but you were waiting on other teams in order to get a deal through. The quote system is very slow and buggy (not Docusign). SF accounts and transfers are a nightmare and reps do not have the permissions to transfer amongst each other. If something was incorrectly booked on someone’s calendar, no one could tell you how it happened. Some would need to interview for new roles while others did not. Important matters would get dragged on for months. Manager would constantly say they were not the right person to talk to even though they were the only manager for AE’s. There were 2 teams at one point but it did not last long. Most of the reps are relatively new and churn is high. Rules were always changed as they saw fit. Coworkers were working with Covid. Seemed like the expectation was to work, no support. Team members and managers were admitting to burn out but always working on days off. Earned PTO was not paid out.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, we are sorry to hear of your experience. We value company culture and are always looking at ways to improve process, compensation, and career pathing. Our goal is to ensure we provide opportunities to earn competitive commission, while creating leadership opportunities for those looking to advance their career. The comp plan is updated at the beginning of each year to align with company initiatives and excited to offer more infield travel opportunities this year! We're glad you saw the increased earning potential as a result of our recent efforts, while appreciate the feedback on ways we could streamline pre and post sale operations. If you have any other additional feedback, I'd love to hear it directly kirsten@realself.com. Thank you again for taking the time to share. - Kirsten Mann VP, Sales

Pros

Having lived through many eras of RealSelf leadership and team culture, I can honestly say that our current CEO and exec team are more committed to the company’s success than any previous generation of leaders. These are the biggest positives I’ve seen coming out of this change: True passion for making RealSelf amazing for our consumers and providers A clear strategic vision for modernizing our legacy brand and product, backed with resources to make it happen Laser focus on a viable, sustainable revenue growth strategy An expectation that everyone is working hard to meet our goals Opportunities for meaningful career growth that had been absent for a few years Big emphasis on a positive, collaborative culture focused on solutions and bold bets We’re in a growth phase, so it has the fast-paced energy of a startup. It’s so energizing now to work with a mostly new team of rockstars who truly want to be here and are pulling together to make RealSelf live up to its potential. We also have an inspiring mission to help consumers make smart choices about aesthetic procedures and connect them with providers who are actually qualified.

Cons

We’re a relatively lean team, and resources are not infinite. We have to be strategic and leverage AI to work smarter, sometimes making trade-offs to deliver what’s most important for customers and the bottom line. (Not a challenge unique to RealSelf, but worth noting.) Many of us also wear a lot of hats. This can be a plus in terms of learning the business and new skills, but it also means we have to operate broadly and not always as deeply as we may want. We have to think in terms of improving systems and savvy automation to ensure things don’t slip through the cracks. It can be stressful for those who are not used to context switching and driving multiple priorities at once. We’ve also inherited areas of legacy mess (code, old systems, etc.) that need some clean-up, but we’re no longer sweeping them under the rug. If you’re up to these challenges, RealSelf is a fantastic place to grow.
