Pros
I'm going to place everything into Pros because that is where it belongs. I've worked here for many years and have seen many changes throughout the years. The truth of the matter is that the company was started via a bootstrapped budget. For those that don't know what that means, it was organic growth through the end of 2014 and the company budget was limited based not only sales but also on sales margin. In the early days, the company was just trying to take a little bit of market share so they couldn't charge all that much for their services. This made the first 2 to 3 years very tough as it basically limits the budget. Most of the people that came through the company through 2014 were almost certainly paid less than the market says they were worth. However, what I've seen is that the CEO gives people opportunities to get a career started in the industry and there is not a lot of appreciation for that once employees have been here for awhile.
Everything really changed in early 2015 once they started seeking funding and got a new sales team in place. Salaries have increased to about market value and benefits are slowly being implemented as they can afford to do so. I've heard that the entry level developers are starting anywhere from $30K to $35K, junior developers are making anywhere from mid $40K's to upper $50's and their senior developers are being paid in the $60K range now. That is a far cry from the early days.
With a limited budget in the early days, they could only hire what they could pay for. They were hiring young kids that had no experience in the industry whatsoever. As a result, there was no respect or appreciation for the opportunity they were given. Don't get me wrong, there are some that are still around that did, but by and large, that was the case. This also doesn't mean that management was without fault. I believe they have learned a lot over the years and tend to deal with people much differently than they did before.
Here is the bottom line, there will be many reviews on here that attempt to knock management down without knowing what all it takes to start and grow a business. There will also be reviews that are more glowing than they should be. The reality is that the owners absolutely know what they are doing. My understanding is that they were just approved for a second round of funding...and it was for a fairly significant amount. They have built a team that will start building apps so that they can generate revenue from digital retail. It's going to be very interesting to see where it all goes.
If you are looking to get into a company that you can learn and grow, this is a great place to not only start your career but to end it. I wouldn't have said that even a year ago. They have finally gotten to the point where they can hire real talent, and its starting to show up in their products and services.
I'm looking forward to seeing where this is all headed. Let's take this company to the next level!
Cons
The only con that I can come up with is that the benefits need to catch up. The PTO is not bad at all but most of the employees need healthcare. If this is implemented before the end of the year, retention won't be an issue at all.
