Pros

Good company match and profit sharing contribution. Good "extra" benefits or saving partnerships for home/auto insurance. Good flexibility for time off and work life balance if you have a good manager. Job flexibility and hours will vary a lot by role.

Cons

Lack of accountability or ownership from internal teams that can and often leads to errors. Too much work and knowledge is expected to be handled or resolved through the CSMs with sparse or very difficult to locate and discern resources. The systems are almost always down in some way. Since the acquisitions of pru and mass mutual, moving between roles has become extremely difficult if not impossible to move outside of your department. Promotions are far and few between and HR is extremely stingey with annual raises, despite any tenure you may have with the company. Be prepared to figure a lot of things out on your own, due to too many departments either not having knowledge or unwilling to give guidance. Also be prepared to learn a minimum of 5 new software systems, however it will likely be closer to 8 programs. At least 2 entirely proprietary so no way to get experience without actually working at empower. Also expect to be given the run around when trying to move departments or roles, who you know will be very important for any kind of job movement.

Pros

It's a paycheck, albeit low. 401k with match (us lower levels get 6% match)

Cons

No work/ life balance!!! non-stop calls, being ignored by managers, and verbal abuse from the callers are next-level. Upper management does not care about the workers. Good luck with requesting the days you actually need off. I feel sorry for you if you miss an unscheduled day or have a last-minute emergency. There's no real room for advancement. Every rule that we have is to make managers and every other department's life easier while we take the brunt of it.
