Pros

Great benefits, financially sound company.

Cons

I have been an employee in claims for 20 years. I have seen many changes which never are for the betterment of the employee unless they are in upper management. Company moto is "Service Above All" which most employees adhere to strictly. However, over the past five years or so management has been very indifferent to being open to listen to any suggestions by adjusters to help with the betterment of the claims handling process. This along with the extremely high volume of the claims load makes for a very poor work environment causing high stress. Also, IT department is inefficient in their ability to update and stay current with the computer system software that would allow for more efficient handling of the claims process. Any advancement or promotion is very limited. As well, the latest process has been to hire from outside of the company rather than promote from within. If there are any promotions they are not based upon productivity but rather politics.

Some good, some bad - depends on what you're looking for

Pros

Great health benefits, pension plan, tuition reimbursement, some flexible working arrangements, little accountability in many jobs (if you like that kind of thing), pay is OK, best place to work in Erie.

Cons

No fairness - work assignments are based on personal situations (kids, other jobs). Everyone else gets stuck with the long hours and assignments no one wants. Performance reviews are based on how long you've been with the company and how much you suck up, not on what you actually produce. Erie, PA isn't a very nice place to live - economy and winters are pretty bad, no real culture. It's also expensive to live here and you won't get paid at national average salaries. Everyone is related - entire families work at Erie Insurance - so be very careful what you say. Hard to get promoted because people work here for life. I'll move on as soon as I can.

Pros

Nothing Much To Say most of the time,

Cons

Very old Technology, Most of the People working there are old school guys just doing the same thing again and again. Supervisors are not at all qualified, Some Supervisors literally know nothing on the technology and Just Flirt with the Interns.
