Any Claims postiions

Pros

Great benefits, vacation, average salary as compared to the industry

Cons

Incredibly unrealistic work load. Company has grown its agencies exponentially, but fails to hire the field staff to support the claim load. They ask you to work overtime, but make it difficult to get it approved. Management is inconsistent w/ its style and varies from branch to branch. This creates a disparity when employees compare jobs from state to state. Promotions are based on who likes you and not your capabilities. The typical management-middle personnel do not have a college degree, yet they are running business units. This creates a hap hazard management style. Managers tend to just react and are not proactive to the needs and issues in the department. Used to be a great place to work, now tenured highly rate people leave for "stress disability'"! I had never heard of that until I worked at Erie. Stay away from "ANY" claims job at Erie.

Pros

They haven't laid anyone off.

Cons

In IT, almost everything. No onboarding for new people. Almost no way to move up in your or learn more in your career without going and doing it on your free time. Promises of moving up mean nothing. Most definitely not a meritocracy, although they will pretend like it is. Everything is just checking a box rather than actually getting better at what we do. Management is overrun with nepotism and people who do not have any technical background, yet they are tasked with making huge technical changes. The people that are supposed to be managing high performing engineering teams have no engineering experience whatsoever, which wouldn't be so bad if they cared to learn even a slice of it. Overall, if you are someone who likes to learn, be challenged and work in a fast paxced environment with any sort of new tooling, I do not suggest IT at ERIE.

Not a pleasant or productive experience

Pros

No overtime required. No sexual harassment experienced. Company pays on time. Relatively easy work. A great place to work for people who have small children and need medical coverage. Management is accommodating of personal time requests.

Cons

Low salaries. Company culture is a xenophobic and catty fraternity. Hierarchy would appear to be the most important value at this company. This company is desperate for new employees and their updated technical knowledge, but then treats them disrespectfully. Company culture up to the CEO strongly differentiates between 'insiders' (employees with 5-30 years' tenure) and 'outsiders'. Not a pleasant status to hold as a new employee. There is nothing really interesting happening at this company, other than operations management. Not the right place for motivated people seeking challenging, meaningful work with competitive salaries.
