I worked at one of the PSS sites and upper management was just awful. Whenever there was a disagreement or simple misunderstanding with the 'client' manager you would get scolded like a little stupid kid. They will put you on a performance improvement plan and will fire you at will. It was an unbelievably demoralizing and humiliating experience. I regret not having left sooner. So much happier now in my current job, especially when I think back of what I went through at this place. No wonder turnover is very high and employee morale is low. Almost all of the PSS employees seemed pretty unhappy and stressed-out although everybody tried to put on a happy face. Pay is painfully low and cost of living is not factored in. This is a really bad choice for any scientist seeking a fulfilling career. My advice: walk away from this terrible company - better yet: run as fast as you can!

Long hours. It was very rare to work less than 50 hours in a week. Upper management doesn't really know a thing about what we do in the lab or how long any given project will take to complete, so there were commonly TAT's far too short than was realistic.
