This is a difficult company to work for

Pros

I had cross training opportunities in other department due to staff turnover/shortage and gained experience.

Cons

There is a lot of staff turnover due to a toxic work environment, an experience overheard from several employees. Staff openly complain about management and one another, in public areas (including a rumor of a former director who was involved with a staff member in another location that resulted in pregnancy). Multiple witnesses reported inappropriate behavior amongst volunteers and staff. There are times when there's been the lingering smell of cigarettes in the hallways, with additional body odor in the summer. At times, the area by the hair salon smells of a sewer filled to the brim in human waste, Finally the facility as an entirety is a depressing gray box.

Pros

-Good place for entry level scientists to gain experience (however, strongly recommend eventually moving on to other opportunities) -Decently upkept facilities -Decent benefits and health insurance -Plenty of opportunity for overtime, if that is a bonus for you

Cons

-Extremely limited room for growth within company. -Management can be rather aloof and condescending; communication is poor. -Management is avoidant when it comes to addressing personnel issues of harrassment or bullying -There is a lack of transparency and accountability on management's end when it comes to staff. There is also a tendency to blame shift and avoid responsibility at all costs. -There is a policy against discussion of pay amongst staff, probably to hide the egregious pay disparities between staff members -There are also massive disparities between the amount of work different staff members are expected to do (and no, the employees who do more work or who do better work are not necessarily paid more or promoted first) -Lack of accountability in management means tactics of promising something to staff or to a staff memeber to get them to do something, and then "forgetting" to ever follow through are used often

Pros

- Very flexible scheduling. You can come in at whatever consistent clock-in time you prefer and leave at your 8 hours. - ample opportunity for overtime (non-mandatory) - learn many techniques to build up a resume

Cons

- stressful work environment that is not worth the compensation - unrealistic workload - project managers will approve rush projects despite the entire lab drowning in too much work and being short staffed - supervisors and up all get bonuses and incentives for higher testing output but the analysts actually performing tests get nothing
