Pros

They were understanding that I had a life outside of work. Expeditors allowed me to complete my masters and open the door to other opportunities. However, without the extra education I do not think I would have had the options I felt that I still deserved.

Cons

They believe in having a great culture but I feel that it can be improved. Some of the day to day tasks or week to week tasks felt unappreciated at times. I think it would be good find a inexpensive ways to reward the people that were more productive. Just a thought.

Pros

The people who work at Expeditors are usually very competent and on the ball. Even though the company is in the Fortune 500, it doesn't feel like a big corporation and there's opportunity in several positions to be the only one doing what you're doing. So the amount of control and responsiblity can be quite nice. People usually recognize when you go above and beyond and everyone is always very professional and polite. I don't think there's a ton of micromanaging. Depending on the position, you can rise among the ranks fairly quickly, sometimes due to high turnover, but it really depends on the position.

Cons

Sub Par Pay It is a widely reported that Expeditors pays slightly less than others for the same type of job and when you factor in the breath and depth that some positions are expected to undertake, the "slightly" might be understating it. Unsympathetic Managers Management is very manager-y in the sense that they are strict about stuff like time off, leaving early, working from home, etc. There's also a dress code, business casual, but for the men, they have to wear ties every day, no casual Fridays. The time off is also not super great. Minimal Vacation Time Vacation time cannot be rolled over to the next year, and depending on when you get hired (jan-feb=5 days, march-april=4 days etc.) you might only have 5 days of vacation your first year and then years 2-4 you only have 10 days. On the 5th and 10th year, you get 5 more days + the days you got on your first year. Six days of sick leave per year and if the weather is bad and you are worried about your safety, you must take a vacation day before taking sick leave or unpaid.

Pros

Expeditors provides good job security. The company is very financially healthy.

Cons

Vacation time doesn't accrue very quickly and does not carryover to the next year. . Two weeks a year until you complete 5 years. There are currently no telecommuting options for IT employees.
