Pros

Innovative, creative, and ambitious environment. Very rewarding, mission driven work. You really have to align with the culture of the place. It has it's pros and cons, but it's really the integral spirit of the place that drives peoples overall commitment.

Cons

Decision making can be lengthy and bureaucracy levels high. Opaque and silo-ed communications between departments. Require entrepreneurial and collaborative work-style with strong ability to build relationships and ask questions.

Short internship with the Exploratorium

Pros

Incredible experience. The staff really cared about their interns and worked to make sure we got the most of our very short experience. They were always at hand to answer questions and were always approachable and friendly.

Cons

The specific department had a project that they were working on and were not completely organized from the get-go. Though this allowed us more opportunities for leardership experience, it did leave us scrambling a little bit at the end of the internship.

Cons

Management. Never sure how decisions are made. Not sure how many people you need to talk to. Systems are not present.
