Pros

30% discount. Cute clothes. Can be fun environment if you like the associates you work with. You are the first to see new clothes that come in.

Cons

Crappy hours. Work lots of weekends and holidays. Don't get to spend time with family at christmas and thanksgiving if you're a manager. You don't feel appreciated. Made to feel like you are disposable. People who are great employees and never call in don't get recognized for it, but bad employees can get away with it and never get fired.

Pros

The employee discounts are incredibly good. 30% on top of any promotions (except 50%, and clearance0 everyday, and 45% once a month or so. You also get 50% off of everything for your first employee purchase. Hours are pretty flexible as well. The store I work at is understanding that a lot of their employees work two jobs or also attend school so they're very lenient with occasional availability changes. As long as you're on time, respectful towards customers, and do your job somewhat well- you'll never get fired.

Cons

There is no full-time employment unless you're a Sales Lead or Store Manager. A sales associate can look forward to one day getting 20-24 hours a week- but it'll take a while to get there. Being part time means no benefits. Sales Leads get benefits, but it takes a lot for an associate to make it to Sales Lead. Customers can be frustrating to deal with just like in any other retail environment- but the layout of Express stores doesn't help. Certain shirts require specific folds, packaging, etc. The men's side of Express usually has anywhere from 300-500 graphic t-shirts on the sales floor at once. This makes closing down the store a nuisance.

Pros

Got to know staff and made new friendships. The friendships were the only thing making me stay until they all left. Good discount on apparel Works well with your schedule if you are in college Managers, and supervisors treated me well

Cons

Large turnover rate, the managers did not fully train staff and I ended up having to teach them at the cash register. The pay was barely minimum wage, and new hires were making more than I was when I was there for almost a year. The main reason why I left. No raise, until a year or two later and the raise is about 20 cents if you actually stay for the time. Floor sets keep you until 3-6am, not good if you're a student that has class in the morning. Strong emphasis on the credit card which annoyed customers. Little recognition for reaching your credit card goal or exceeding it. The most I got out of being the top credit card seller was a $5 gift card to starbucks. Oooh 5 bucks that can get me 1 1/2 coffee.
