Pros

Express is a highly dynamic company recently gaining independence of Limited Brands. There are great opportunities to refocus the business without LBI interference or direction - can clearly define company focus and goals, as well as target consumer and assortment. Tight knit community collaborates effectively, they are open to new ideas and team members, and work together to gain momentum. Tremendous opportunities for individual and team success. Great leaders in areas like Manufacturing, Planning & Allocation, IT and Store Operations. Have in the past compensated reasonably well, and offer a competitive benefits package. Located in Columbus, OH which is becoming a retail meca. The city and surrounding areas have grown tremendously over the past 10 years.

Cons

Tough times for retailers all around. EXP just went through a round of layoffs, but still have key required positions posted for hire. Biggest issue has been an unclear focus on target consumer vs. assortment in store, which leadership has yet to resolve. Merchandising roles/hierarchy are overly complicated and are very top heavy, not allowing for effective execution at lower levels. Support roles/functions across all areas of the business have been reduced or eliminated due to current state of business. Difficult as there's still a lot of work to be done in these areas. Will make it more challenging to turn around the business in coming months.

Pros

The employees, lower management, and upper management are always friendly and helpful. There is lots of room for growth within the company - horizontal and vertical.

Cons

Customer service is always a difficult field to work in, especially when you run into people that are less than friendly.

Pros

Discounts are good when the extra discount days are available. Do good work and they will reward you with available hours.

Cons

Not nearly enough hours for those part timers who want the hours. 8 hours scheduled last week and I am the second highest scheduled. 9 hours was the highest. Managers are not alowwed to socialize with "regular" sales associates and they are very upfront about it making others feel inferior. There is not a good screening process for promoting people. Many times people are promoted that do not possess the right people skills.
