Inconsistent schedule- management can change your schedule the morning of a shift if someone calls out. Call outs don’t get written up so it is a frequent occurrence. Workers are always told “we’re hiring people soon” who never get hired. Hour changes- at my store we were told that hour access and office hours were changing with little to no heads up. My schedule went from 9:30-6 to an arrangement of staggered shifts. No regard for employee morale- short staffing and removal of sales incentives with a 2 week notice. Instead of a monthly bonus of $200+(net) we got less that $1 raises(about $112 pre tax) District realignments- different management style, stores to cover, and completely different teams. Happens maybe once a year with no heads up from upper management.

My experience at Extra Space Storage was extremely disappointing. After four weeks of training, I was sent out to take calls, only to be told that in order to graduate and remain employed, I had to be within 10% of the team’s average. Keep in mind, this team consisted of seasoned employees. I handled over 250 calls and converted 90 into sales, yet despite finishing training within the required threshold, a director I had never met called a meeting on a Friday to tell me I didn’t make the cut. I was technically 10.4%—but even that feels arbitrary. To make matters worse, I closed a $3,500 deal, the highest in my group, and successfully completed 90+ rentals, yet I received no compensation for this work. Plain and simple: this company does not prioritize or value its employees. Current customers how does this make you feel about renting from them?
