      Wise Career Change

      Pros

      I was in retail for over 30 years, I was looking for a position that would value my management experience. I have enjoyed the slower pace of this business. Other managers in my area have been very helpful in helping me to learn the storage business. My dealings with my DM have been very professional. As one who did a complete career change at my age, Extra Space was a good choice.

      Cons

      In my short time with the company, I have found very few shortcomings.

      Stable, but at what cost?

      Pros

      Stable industry and the company continues to grow its revenue.

      Cons

      Growth comes at any cost. Customers are only seen as an ATM. The CEO and executive leadership say one thing, yet act differently. They say they care about the employees, but they only make decisions that put money in their pockets. They will say "look at us we gave everyone a raise", but in reality they are paying way below market unless you are an executive.

      Pros

      -High chance your district members (other SMs and AMs will be very friendly and helpful -Generally a warm culture within the field level positions -Mostly easy work - the hardest is maintaining the property, especially if you work in a southern store during the summer.

      Cons

      -Favoritism is incredibly prevalent. -DMs can and will fire you for no real reason and with no warning (no write ups, no strikes, nothing) if they simply don’t like you. -They pride themselves on understaffing and will spread you as thin as you can go then spread a little more. -Very hard to get help from someone above a DTL position on urgent things, but you can bet your life you’ll never hear the end of it if you’re not green across the board on your KPIs by the 15th of the month.
