Great Company, Great Culture

Pros

The culture here at ESS is great. I have an amazing district manager who truly values his employees. His constant feedback is so valuable. He genuinely cares and wants you to grow and succeed. The schedule is pretty sweet as well: 9:30am-6pm and closed on Sundays. This is a heavily customer oriented job. You'll deal with a huge variety of people every day. Some are great, but you'll also experience some not so great ones. Just something to keep in mind. Overall I have enjoyed my time here. The culture is inclusive and supportive.

Cons

The pay is pretty bad considering what we do. As a SM, you are responsible for EVERYTHING on the property. Maintenance and upkeep, billing from vendors, foreclosures, etc. Often there is only one person on site, so it gets overwhelming at times. Also be prepared to have people very angry with you and scream a lot. I've had many screw this moments as customers take everything that is wrong in their lives out on you. Have a thick skin! Another thing I really REALLY despise is the fact that we are expected to get at least 10 Google reviews a month. If you don't, be prepared to get called out on it on a Teams meeting. The Google metric is the worst. Lastly, there's not much room for advancement beyond the store level.

Very under paid

Pros

Staff members are great Live on site option (rare and might be very under paid bc of it) Districts can be like communities where everyone is there for help and more

Cons

Very under paid!! I found out today that multiple store managers who possibly will be, is or won’t be a DTL and is getting paid under $18. With 4 or 5 years of experience with the same company. That is sad. They say they promote within. Haven’t seen that yet. Certain districts can be dry and stale (filled with old people who will take the next step and stay where they’re for years. So people below especially young people don’t want to stay bc of that reason.) Amount of responsibilities you have isn’t that hard but doesn’t come close to what you should be getting paid. Amount of maintenance you do yourself incredible high. You do everything but heavy duty stuff like cleaning units throughly, changing light bulbs, sweeping hallways, sending invoices, reaching sales, KPI numbers and much more. Basically a janitor who does sales and gets under paid. No sick days PTO u start off not even earning half a day. Work 5 days a week if not open on Sunday and hours suck.

Pros

There is no "pro" to working for ESS in Phoenix. When I was hired it was awesome. Then upper management changed.

Cons

Upper management will play favorites. If you're not one of their favorites you're run out of the company. Turn over is way too high because of this.
