More Bad then Good

Pros

The people on a personal level are fun people to be around. If you are a part of the 20% of agents who make it through the reserve program, and you're in the top 10% to 20% of those new agents, it's extremely lucrative.

Cons

Leaving FB is a nightmare. Since life sales commission is annualize to begin with, when you leave, they charge you immediately, ask you to start paying on your "debt" immediately. As your former clients keep their policies in place, that monthly commission goes towards paying that debt. Leadership is so evasive in answering questions. The ultimate goal is to earn a book of business and they dangle that in front of you, but they don't share specifics on how to get one....you don't know how long you have to be at FB or how much business you need to bring in. Everything is a secret. They are non-committal on everything. Their business model is hire as many people as you can, let the Reserves write business for FB at a low commission, knowing that 8 out 10 agents won't make it through that reserve part. Then FB will keep those new clients. I was placed in a developmental center, charged $1000 of rent, then another $700 to $800 in varies fees and program costs. Pay for your own advertising, since FB does no advertising...$200 a month at least. For a new agent, that is extremely difficult to pay every month.

Pros

* probably the most positive thing I could say is that it's a small company, and some people like that. Some small companies have good opportunities, this one, meh.

Cons

* Good ol' boy culture in management * Weak leaders who think good leadership is fear mongering * Management is very theory X -- old school * Zero connection allowed between home office staff and agents * Technology landscape is a complete and utter mess, worst I've seen * Frequent turn overs in IT leadership because senior leadership doesn't treat IT like a real partner * Strange relationship with federation means that insurance operation is shielded from reality in insurance marketplace - probably won't end well * History of really poor decisions in IT space, death march projects as a result * Very very insular culture -- management is largely unaware of outside trends and is almost arrogantly proud of the fact * Geriatric workforce with all associated issues * Very very few people stay past the first year in home office -- huge gap in workforce age as a result * Gross cafeteria that's lit like a mausoleum * No meeting rooms, people meet in the cafeteria

Pros

I have none for this company

Cons

watch your back. They will fire you for no reason & then make up things in order to justify it. The last guy I reported to is the most worthless human being I've ever worked for. If you come in with any kind of experience, it won't work out for you. They have their own way of doing things & have no interest in what you bring to the table. Their way or the highway. No feedback from your boss whatsoever. Agents are completely boorish. You are simply an order taker for them. You are not allowed to underwrite their business although you'll be told the opposite.
