Pros

Can learn different aspects of sign production.

Cons

May not get to learn different aspects of sign production. There may be a "division of labor", so-to-speak.

Pros

Each shop is individually owned and operated, so it will vary. -Alright benefits, but not enough to rely on for anything huge. -Great hands-on work for beginner graphic designers. -Manual labor to keep you in shape.

Cons

Again... every shop varies, but this was my experience. -Unfair, bottom of the barrel wages with no incentives, no bonuses (except for the franchisees) -Often intense manual labor that can be unsafe. -Absolutely no space for growth. These franchises are made to make one person happy, and that person isn't promoting anyone but themselves.
