Pros

Flexible schedule, decent working hours, benefits are pretty good, you can become knowledgable in a lot of different areas of the credit union in a short period of time, good stepping stone to go to greener pastures.

Cons

Where do I begin? The back office almost seems like a different company to work for than the branches. Branches are highly dysfunctional including the management, branch management plays favorites, branch management only is interested in making goals (which are unattainable) and if you fall short, they are quick to blame you personally for it rather than taking ownership, some branch managers are too focused working at other branches then working at their own, the system is outdated, very old school processes like sending documents from one department/branch to another, branch managers who have been with the company for a long time do not keep up with the ever-changing policies and you spend half the time explaining why the policy changed, the wrong people are promoted and make it miserable for those with experience and an education to go anywhere with the company

Pros

As a Senior Teller, I directly impacted the daily life of our members in a positive way. Easy work, simple problems, I was encouraged to be myself, empowered to make decisions myself, my manager didn't 'hover', developed great relationships with our members, I effectively ran the cash ops of the branch.

Cons

Not officially "management", so the coaching I provided to the tellers I supervised was informal and unofficial. I had no say in the hiring of my partner or my subordinates. I was not present during interviews nor was I asked for my input regarding candidate selection. The job description failed to communicate that much time was devoted to hardware troubleshooting in the form of working with ATMs, cash recyclers, coin machines etc. it could feel like you are a technician more so than a financial professional.

Pros

Great people. Wonderful family oriented work place. It was difficult to leave the people but not the company. Good benefits and retirement.

Cons

The CU lacks true leadership at all levels. People are not willing to speak up either out of fear or because they know change will not happen under current leadership. The department that is supposed to represent the people knows this and does nothing...again lack of leadership.
