Ride the wave

Pros

Lots of money to be made if you can ride out the wave of the merger and coax your way into good terms with higher ups. Good experience to get under your belt with some good resources for learning.

Cons

For the ever-growing load of work Flexential keeps trickling down the stream, the compensation seems to be lacking. This merger has caused several roles/positions to be eliminated which has in turn caused a more hectic workload for the rest of us with no adequate reciprocation on pay. Everybody wants more bang for their buck but this company can expect to see higher turn over rates if they keep at this pace with screwing over the side of the team that isn't pulling in at least 50k. Flexential health insurance benefits overview was even targeted to employees making over 50k! Get it together. Not everyone is a privileged single male that lives off of caffeine and gaming. There are folks with families, kids and health concerns that got hit hard by benefits changes.

thanks for the feedback. We worked hard on ensuring we had 4 illustrations within our healthcare overview for 4 different income levels so that we had a relevant example for every employee in the company. In terms of the benefits, we rebalanced how we spend our benefits dollars so that we could offer more benefits to all employees versus focusing on only health insurance. In doing so, we were able to take the 401k match from 50% on 4% to 75% on 6%, increase life insurance, increase tuition reimbursement, and enhance our paid leave strategy (including an introduction of paid paternity leave).

Pros

Good data centers, not the best, but above average. A few employees remain that have pride in their work.

Cons

Even the newest data centers don't use adiabatic cooling, renewable energy or anything leading edge. The company seems to be in the process of being "Bained", as in Bain Capital. You cut all long term projects. Cut operating costs to the bone. Remove as many employee benefits as possible. Dangle huge incentives to the senior management team to carry out the dirty work. This boosts short term profits to investors until the business starts to fall apart and then sell of the pieces to competitors for a profit. Capitalism at its best. Too bad for the employees. Oh yea, the name is the worst.

Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback. After the acquisition, the company did engage Bain to work with us to drive our initial integration plan and organizational construct. Since then, the local teams have been at work on the integration of the two companies. We expect to be fully integrated by Q1 2019. With regard to employee benefits, we've added some benefits such as unlimited PTO, richer tuition assistance and technical certifications, increased life insurance and for our Western employees, our most significant enrichment was to take our 401k match from a 50% match on 4% of salary to a 75% match on 6% of salary.

Pros

Room to improve? Yea Definitely. But will they make the right choices moving forward? I doubt it with all the dumb rash decisions they made so far...

Cons

Moral sucks in all departments and has been declining. Everyone is looking to jump ship. Be prepared: This is turning into a call center. They only have 2 shifts, day and night, no overlap. They have 2 teams, front and back. Everyone is trying to move to the day fronts which means you work Sunday through Wednesday with shift times between 7 am and 8 pm. or you work 8 pm to 7 am. Be prepared to get a phone call as your shift is ending and to stay later than your expected leave time. Night shift, you either work Wednesday night though Sunday morning... Which means you work every weekend. The front half start Sunday night and work through Wednesday Night. This is the best schedule if you need weekend time off. Everyone has to work every weekend. This is far different than the company they bought out, we were looking to have employees work less weekends (one out of four). New hires, expect working the whole weekend on nights, current employees are looking to move to day or night fronts. Most people got under a 2.5% raise across the department, that's not enough with inflation and rising costs of living. You cant give people low pay and not expect the employees to talk. This is a significant drop from previous years. We were promised pay raises to level the cost of living across the board in all locations. That disappeared after Flexential took over. They are well under the national and regional average on pay. The pay is low, I would expect at least another 20k for what I do and that can be found elsewhere. Health insurance also went up and is now 1000/month for families. This is hurting all employees. All the benefits are bad, Everything is payed out of pocket and the company does not help you. They don't even match 1 to 1 on your 401k. Unlimited PTO is a thing, but they give you a hard time if you need to take a day off. We now have to pay for vision and dental out of our paycheck where it was covered by the company before. This company will make you broke at the end of the day. As for the work: They are making 2 different departments merge. They should remain two different departments. They do not do the same stuff. This means employees need to monitor 2 ticketing systems, have two phone queues, two monitoring systems, etc. One system requires research to do admin work for managed clients (Configuring the System, AD, SQL, IIS, Apache, NGINX, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle). New client contracts will be reducing what we support. We will still have clients that require advanced support for the next few years until their contracts expire. The other system is just dumb work (A single ping failed which automatically creates a ticket when its working fine, Grant or Revoke Location Access, Turn up ports, The doorbell rang in a Distant City and someone wants in, BTW... Why is this a thing? Should it not just ring in that location?). So in the end, you have a ticket that requires real admin work and then you get yelled at if your not paying attention to the other system every 3 minutes. If you let a ticket sit, they will see and tell you that you didn't look at your grant access ticket. There are also a lot of employees that do not know how to manage systems actually doing system work now. This has been frustrating because now on top of everything else, you need to watch the chat window and help them. The company needs to provide everyone with 3-4 more monitors or stop being stupid. TLDR: They suck at every choice they make. We are smarter than that.

Thanks for the feedback. We are in the toughest period of systems integration for the 2 companies but the great news is that 2 major merges are scheduled for Sept and Nov of this year and will drive significant relief across the business by sharing one system. Next up is an ERP project which will drive additional efficiency. In terms of the shift work, we do have an overlap day on Wednesdays designed for cross-communication for the shifts and to also support some training time during work hours to further support career growth.
