Florida's most abusive public employer

Pros

Work at home with no discipline issues

Cons

Administration manages by intimidation, example, in a meeting of managers this year a vice president instructed principals to fire any one who disagreed with the policies of the school, questioned these questions or appeared to be "less than enthusiatice". They changed the employee contract this year to dismiss employees "at will". Performance does not count if the administrator has personal issues with the employee, they are gone. Dozens of veteran teachers were non-renewed with a call telling them they were being non-renewed. No reasons given, just you are gone. The leadership is totally lacking in integrity, loyalty to employees or any kind of a collegial work enviornment. Along with the millions of dollars they have wasted, the treatment of employees and the falsification of state records, they not only need to be fired, but jailed.

Pros

Flexible work schedule Ability to work from home Decent pay and benefit cost Great team members and direct leadership

Cons

Ever changing requirements and management/leadership' s desire for employee to change on a dime without proper strategies in place Work/Life balance not important to leadership although this is what they continue to profess. Since the organization is largely funded by public education dollars, its stability is directly related to the state's budget health and education funding allocation.

Pros

You get to work from home so you will save on gas and the health benefits are not too bad.

Cons

You will work non-stop (12+ hours per day including Saturday and Sunday). You will truly have no personal life as students are constantly calling you even on weekends and if you don't answer them then they can complain which will cause you to receive a "nice" call from your supervisor. Everything is about how many students you complete and not about the quality of education you provide. You will have about 200 students and no support. Think long and hard before working for FLVS. You are better off at a traditional school (I've been teaching for 13 years).
