Good people, difficult culture

Pros

This company is full of good people all trying to do their best, and the personal culture of the company is very friendly and mostly positive, allowing (minus a couple of grumps) an ease of cross-department conversation that is nice. This is much more than previous companies I've worked for.

Cons

While the personal culture is good, the actual work process is fairly broken. Nearly every department is saddled with 'emergencies' that are really just a piece of another department not planning their time well, which then spills onto the next department(s) down the line. At some point upper management will need to realize that these surprise emergencies are really just business as usual here. At that point, they can either decide that this is the official Way of Fulcrum and own it, or decide instead that asking people to work all weekend is not really in the best long term interest of keeping good employees.

Pros

The people are friendly, hard working, and know how to have fun: there are after work happy hours, work time lunch trips, and plenty of projects and initiatives to spearhead and opportunities to seize. It has not been taken over by an oppressive architecture team, and it does not believe in middlemen, it's expected that you understand that it your sole responsibility to deliver quality to customers and that it is up to you as to how you do it. The company is b2b and has ongoing contracts, active projects, and an evolving set of products, there's no shortage of work or sales.

Cons

This company has gone under a lot of change since the new CTO, and that has made some feel like their cheese has been moved. For others, these changes have been long awaited improvements. It's generally up to you to figure out how to do your job, (which is usually fairly technical), and it is a sink or swim environment. Some do drown. Slightly noisy.

Pros

Nice people to work with, pleasant environment. The primary customer is AT&T. I recommend getting additional customers to reduce the dependance on one customer.

Cons

Database design that is thrown together to satisfy application functional needs of one screen or field instead of organizing the data to reflect the real world usage. Confusing and unorganized table structures, duplicate data, duplicate table and column names, tables with data related to many things etc.

Thanks for your feedback, I'll make sure our dev manager and cto learn about your concern. In regards to AT&T, you'll be happy to learn that we've gained many new customers in the past few years and are at the outset of a CATS implementation with the largest provider in India!
