Pros

Nice benefits, fantastic discount on products and I loved that they paid for so many race entries.

Cons

*Cartography department, not Garmin as a whole* - the work atmosphere was depressing. No collaboration and I never felt like I was part of a team. Work was isolating and you were always being compared to your counterparts. People didn't stay long. Most of my colleagues lasted 1-3 years before leaving.

Stable company

Pros

The company will be around for a long time, so you can count on a stable paycheck with modest increases over the years. They survived the financial crisis with no layoffs in engineering. Company just celebrated 30 years in business.

Cons

Top engineers can make more money elsewhere. More VPs than top tier software engineers. Can be difficult to get promoted. Sometimes extra effort is not appreciated.

Pros

Benefits are good and the company outside of IT has good culture.

Cons

IT culture is very poor. Lots of game playing and grandstanding and being held hostage by other parts of the business. The work life balance mantra that is recited so often is non-existent. Poor management that does not value associates enough to stand up to the next manager up the chain.
