Pros

Brand. The name Gartner gets you in doors.

Cons

They run the sales teams like a sweatshop. Selling Gartner to large enterprise accounts is based upon a trusted relationship and this takes time. But they run the organization like we are selling software to commercial accounts. Annual quote but monthly, weekly and daily targets. It is like running a marathon in a pair of high heel shoes.

Pros

Overall I was successful at Gartner which leads to commission which is a positive. Other than that, not much more to say for pros.

Cons

TERRIBLE management. It's shocking how they select managers. Really low quality. There's poor management all the way up to the top. Worst management I've experienced so far in my career. TOXIC culture. Really bad. Not great benefits compared to other orgs. Not a happy place to work. No sense of community. LOW diversity. During my tenure, several management level individuals said things that were completely inappropriate (anti-LGBTQ for example). Was shocked that nothing happened. Says a lot about the culture and management.. My advice to you - find a different company to work.

Pros

Great opportunity for individuals young in their career to get great sales experience and work with C-suite level clients. The Gartner sales methodology is top-tier and will open doors down the road in your career. Extremely collaborative culture - your team will be willing to help you in almost every aspect of your role on a day-to-day basis. Work/life balance can be very flexible Good service offering with a overall positive reputation in the market Gartner is the global leader in Market Research & Advisory. Competitors have a very limited presence

Cons

Gartner is a very complex and in-depth product/service offering that takes 6 months to a year to fully understand. Hence, the importance of training. Training used to be 10 weeks in a classroom setting. The current training is now 2-3 weeks long and fully remote. This left myself and other AE's w/ a huge lack of knowledge transfer and readiness to go-live. There is a huge feeling of "I don't know what I don't know" across the org. for new employees with Managers left to fill the gaps. This can end up being a struggle for most AE's and leads to turnover. Gartner overall has a positive culture, but as with most sales organizations, that can all depend on your Manager/Region/VP that you are assigned to. In my experience, the management team completely ruined my experience with Gartner. Mid-Management has a severe lack of training and there is no established or successful practice that is streamlined for Mid-management/ The Management team I was assigned has the worst culture I have ever seen, leaving me with the feeling that I was on an island and was left with a "figure it out" mentality. Communication was essentially non-existent in terms of expectations, which left Management and our team completely misaligned. My team felt a severe lack of guidance, support and overall feeling that the Management did not care about our coaching or motivation in the role. When I began to struggle in my role, my Manager went from saying everything is fine to tell me to "figure it out", with essentially no guidance on what/how to improve. Gartner Management preaches that they want you to help you progress your career. When in reality, some Management cares solely about how your success makes them look, and wants to keep you in your role. I've had a teammate actually be prevented from pursuing an internal role as it would remove him from the team and hurt our Management. Was misled in the interview process by the VP's sharing that as an Account Manager/AE, you will not be responsible for prospecting/cold calling net new business. This was a complete lie as that will be the expectation in role depending on which region you are assigned to. Pay could be better.
