Pros
I joined Gavin de Becker and Associates after serving 6 years in the United States Marine Corps. When I first joined this organization, my intention was to eventually leave and pursue a career in law enforcement. Although I was accepted to a law enforcement agency, I decided to stay and further my career at GDBA for the advancement opportunities. I began to notice that some aspects of life at GDBA closely paralleled experiences that I had in the Marines. Most notable was that the self-motivated types who excelled in the Marines, were the same ones who did well at this firm.
After working the Command Center for a year, I was presented with the opportunity to travel. I had to earn the right to travel and be entrusted with running overseas assignments by myself with no support. During my time at GDBA, I’ve traveled to Croatia, Italy, France, Montenegro, the UK, Australia, St. Martin, India, Greece, Turkey, Haiti, Mexico, Bahamas, Serbia, Costa Rica, Panama, Anguilla, Tanzania, and over 35 US States.
Cons
Our service is 100% client driven. If your performance is good, clients will want you on their team, which means you’ll work. Seeing as how Command Center work is about 50% discretionary time, if you lack creativity and motivation, you’ll fail to succeed. On the other hand, I’ve seen self-starters who’ve used the discretionary time to earn degrees, learn how to program, and become pilots.
