Pros

I worked in Genscript about five years. This is a great company: the employees are very nice and highly educated. The company has a good system and a strong top leadership! The manager of the shipping department is very knowledgeable and helpful. I believe, Genscript will grow bigger and stronger!

Cons

Expect more employee culture/sport activities.

thank you for the comment, inexperienced managers are perhaps the NO1 issue for this company because we grow too fast, the top management is realizing the issue and have been treating this issue as his top priority

cutting cost is everything

Recommend
CEO approval
Business Outlook

Pros

Chinese culture in favor to Chinese people, flexible managers and generally friendly colleagues willing to collaborate

Cons

cost cut is everything and eventually talents will be cut too as 'cost', for everyone left the company no matter willingly or not willingly, performance review results would be only C which means all the cost of performance bonus or commissions would be cut to zero. If your offer is in the form of annual package, do expect you would never be paid in full as you would never meet their sales target and performance target as the target is just inrealistic and only top down assigned. For everyone left the company no matter willingly or unwillingly, performance review would be the lowest category no matter what your actual performance was and that would save the company the full amount of bonus or commission, the most toxic financial system among all the peers in this industry

Pros

Resolved VISA problems, easy to get in if you are Chinese

Cons

No benefits, cheap company, counts every minute at work, upper managers tried to control everything, even the score on this website.

we received a number of very negative reviews recently pretending to be someone who are current or recent employee, such as this one, however we have never had any HR specialist who worked here for more than 5 years, Piscataway site is small, by the time this review was written we only had 1 HR specialist and as it can be imagined she is very upset by this review. As a matter of fact, does it make sense for someone who hates this company so much to have worked here for 5 years?

Pros

1) if you are looking to gain weight, their $3 per day lunch program is the best. 2) Take brisk walks with Managers if you want promotions.

Cons

1) Training sessions and workshops are below standard and very unprofessional. Can't understand the speakers most of the time. Always have technical issues with Skype business calls. 2) Kitchen during the lunch time is very hostile for non-Mandarin speakers. 3) Commission structure is always a moving target. As soon as the Management (in China) finds out you are making more commission they will change the rules to reduce the commission. Employees don't have a say, it is more like a Nazi ruling. 4) HR are best friends with Managers, so nothing remains confidential.

I would like to thank you for the detailed feedback, glad you liked our lunch program, and we hope you enjoyed the brisk walk too because that's what keeps us from gaining too much weight. We are sorry if language barrier is the main reason for you to leave. we are an international company, although we work with English we try not to be too strict at non-working space. I agree that communication with management is not always easy, which you will find same in your second job and so on, but direct communication should have been the best approach. Lastly, we think cultural unfitness is the top reason for people to leave companies, it has nothing to do with salaries, benefits or how smart people are, we wish you best luck.

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective. We recognize that your experience in 2022 did not reflect the standards we strive for, and we sincerely regret that. Since then, we have made significant improvements, including a new HR team, enhanced training programs, and the implementation of an Applicant Tracking System to ensure a more transparent and respectful process. Your feedback has helped guide these changes. If you have additional suggestions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us at HR.EU@genscript.com. We hope that if you engage with us again in the future, you will experience these improvements firsthand.

Toxic Workplace

Pros

Decent benefits, okay base salary for entry level sales people.

Cons

The worst employer I've ever had. Many red flags but wanted to break into the industry. This review is for their Catalog Products Business Units (CPBU). Training was non existent. 1 week of technical training where the product managers rolled their eyes because you weren't at their technical level. Limited knowledge on their internal ERP system so difficult to navigate. Laughable sales training; my territory overview was a half page Microsoft word sheet on accounts they sold to our visited previously. Leads were minimal. A manager who rarely travelled and the extent of her sales coaching was how I started an email ( hi vs hey vs hello). Inferior products. Since I had limited leads and previous account history, I did a lot of cold calling and walking hallways. Found many leads, only for it not to be under catalog products. Would have to refer them to my counterparts that provided custom solutions (RSBU). Lot's of sales conversions for them, but when asked if they could get me in front of other customers from some of our catalog products, they'd ignore me. So more competition and no team work or assistance in cross selling. Unrealistic goals. Mid year, they increased quota by almost double because they were launching a new (incomplete) product. Couldn't even sell the product but still affected our numbers. An obvious favoritism to Chinese colleagues. During sales meetings, Chinese counterparts would get invited to things, where non chinese (korean, american, ect) would be on their own. Late night calls discussing business on Chinese time zone, with criticism on why our numbers were so low. They would straight insult us on the call and call us lazy.
