Decent first job out of college

Pros

It's a job that is a good transition from college to being a young-professional. I started working for GW as a work-study student and made the change to full-time employee immediately after graduation. Since it's a research university there are many opportunities to attend events and expand ones network. Take advantage of the opportunity to obtain your Masters degree for a huge discount.

Cons

Bureacracy Favoritism Lacked diversity I generally enjoyed my time working for GW but there was so much bureacracy, red tape, and office politics that it didn't seem like much was ever accomplished. There are great employees and subpar employees, from my observation if you're not one of the "popular" employees then you will have limited upward mobility. Even though GW is the second largest employer in DC (besides the federal government) there is not enough diversity in the administrative offices/management positions.
