Pros

Well-known company across the industry. Some very talented people. Interesting projects. Able to collaborate with other offices.

Cons

1. Very dated, very antique technology-I mean using templates created in 2005 antique. Also, the entire timecard system is disgusting to navigate. 2. Non-existing office culture. The office is so dead. Usually nobody is there except the junior staff, difficult to grow and network. 3. Strong emphasis on billable hours, disregarding employee's personal life. I have gotten phone calls at 10:00 PM telling me to fix something ASAP when the project is not due in another week. Very high pressure to be 100% billable. 4. High turnover rate for junior staff. Plenty of junior staff leave within the first 2 years. You really have to disregard all your personal life if you want to climb that corporate ladder. 5. Top heavy management. Useless HR. 6. Long and potentially dangerous fieldwork. Ironically Geosyntec emphasis so much on safety but at least I do not see they actively practice it in real life. This might depend on office locations but I've done fieldwork (nightshift) for 2 weeks straight in another state without any break. Sometimes they only budget for 1 person for 1 day when the scope definitely requires 2 people or more. Upper management ate the budget, then the junior staff has to struggle.

Pros

Very smart and motivated employees at all levels. Interesting projects and ability to work within your academic focus, for the most part. Genuine people and opportunity to works with lots of different professionals. Vacation days are good at mid/sr level. Lots of sick time. Good ESPP.

Cons

Marketing is very good in the northeast but everywhere else their support is unhelpful when it comes to putting together proposals. In addition, most individuals do not even know how to use the CRM platform. This leads to lost opportunities/leads and ability to sell laterally to former/current clients. Promotions at mid/sr level take much longer than other firms. Yearly salary adjustments are very low. High turnover. Poor 401k vesting (6 years) Too high of standards for work performance/goals leads to burnout. Conflict avoidant management that does not communicate well.

Anti-vaxxers holding company back

Pros

Initial COVID-19 response was positive - almost everyone working from home, upgrades to software and servers, cautious reopening plans pre-vaccination. Local offices have had the ability to respond to changing rules fairly rapidly.

Cons

Corporate management has refused to require or encourage vaccination, let alone even collect information about vaccination or covid testing for in-person work. Anti-vaxxers at the executive level are keeping the company from moving forward on encouraging or requiring vaccination. Company management has not even made a statement encouraging people to talk to their doctors about the covid vaccine. Shameful, and a bad policy for a company which is self-insured.
