Thank you for your review and service. Salary is a common topic we hear about it. The company's Payroll is the single most expensive line item in our budget. Our business model, Import/Export, Distributor and Supplier results in very thin profit margins. We work with factories who make the products we sell, and with retailers also trying to survive on very thin margins. All that said, we have to work within market compensation constraints to stay competitive. It's not easy but we do our absolute best. Salary is also a tricky discussion. There is a correlation between your "value" and what the company can pay. For example, someone with five years of relevant work experience should command higher compensation than someone with one year of relevant experience. Another compensation consideration is "equity" within a "job family." Every time an offer is extended to someone, we go through an equity analysis to ensure everyone in that same group is paid fairly, in relation to one another. A lot of thought and time go into the "salary discussion."

Pros

I can honestly say I met some good people at this company who really made a difference while I was there. It felt a tad less painful. However, for the most part, this company made me realize how miserable I was in this industry. Even the with that said, I appreciate the experience that helped me move on to better things & a career I absolutely love now.

Cons

I always felt Unappreciated & underpaid. Also, was never utilized to my full potential.

It sounds like Gibson was a stepping stone to better things for you. That is great for you! Feeling unappreciated and underpaid certainly feels bad, personally. Compensation can be a "hot" topic. Gibson's business model results in thinner margins, plain and simple. We have to work within our constraints. Compensation is well-discussed before an offer is extended. Moreover, that compensation will fall into Market compensation range for that position, in Los Angeles County. Generally the market ranges are wide. But, all employers try to stay within the mid- to lower-range to leave room for growth. Rarely do any employers extend offers in the higher range unless it is warranted and necessary. It sounds like you are on to better things and feeling utilized to your fullest.

Thank you for noting "some good people work there." Gibson, being a very well-established company (45 years) and leader in what we do, is a result of steady and good business practices. Management is not "awful and treats employees like garbage" as you claim in your review. On the contrary, management is solid and steady as demonstrated by the ongoing success of the business. Your review sounds like it comes from a personal place, not business-related. And your one-point rating clearly reflects a bad personal experience, non business-related.
