Pros

Working with families on the worst days of their lives and knowing you were able to help make a difference by creating a legacy for them / their family members. Also, knowing that when you went home lives were still being saved.

Cons

Since the previous CEO retired things have taken a terrible turn. The previous director of transplant coordination was promoted to Chief Clinical Officer and is not qualified. Another staff member who was barely present the last several years was also promoter to a Chief officer position. Many management positions have changed of which the staff is extremely upset by and also the number of organ donors is drastically lower this year then last. The fear is that this new leadership group may be running this well known successful OPO into the ground.

Pros

Work with some good staff, pay is good for someone without a college degree.

Cons

THE MANAGEMENT! Most management has been there for 20 years and are very vindictive, play favorites and talk behind your back to other employees and management. The management lies all the time and has no direction, always flys by the seat of their pants with no structure. Employee’s are overworked and under staffed and there is no training standard, so a new person never gets the right training for doing a recovery. Management only cares about their bottom line and pushing through as many donors as possible so they get a bigger bonus. Donors are harvested even though they have reasons to be ruled out and the tissue recovered will be thrown out by the processors anyway. The call schedule is horrible if you have any sort of family life and have no problem working you into your days off. They tell you that you will get “10 hours of down time” but it’s almost never the case and they put you back on call early and when you approach management about any issues or question them about the policies put in place, they change the rules and it always accommodates them. They really showed how little they cared for their employees during the mishandling of a covid outbreak, rushing employees back too early and against doctors orders, some still having symptoms. This is all just because they “needed to put more teams together” to recover donors that they only see as $ signs. Very disappointed in this organization that I once thought so highly of and envied to work for.
