Pros

Paid vacations/ sick days/ partial holidays off. Available benefits, and paid training

Cons

PAID BY CALL -Upper management is oblivious to the whole department. -Internet server constantly goes down resulting in loss of pay -In the past year, this company has changed policies which have resulted in up to 25% reduced pay per representative. -Customers are not happy with the changes, and are extremely volatile on almost a call to call basis which results in higher call times and less pay. -Towards the month of October, they will start training employees for Open Enrollment in Part D. These calls are much longer as the customers require massive amounts of information, and Torchmark will not change your pay schedule. -Extremely low upper mobility. I had applied for a different position on four separate occasions and was told each time that they were "no longer accepting applications for current employees"

Pros

Besides selling and obtaining adults' consent, applications are easy to complete. If you are able to get a good schedule and reach your metrics, you normally don’t have to think about work at home. They also offer a pension after 5-10 years

Cons

When you first start, it takes 2-3 months before you can earn a bonus. In the meantime, you are paid around $15 per hour. When you quit, the company takes away one week of pay for the first week of training. Bonuses in general are somewhat shady. The company doesn’t have a tool for agents to track which customers are approved and pay for their policies. Your hourly wage is covered by the customers who have been approved and paid for their policies, and any remaining amount is your bonus. Additionally, you also have chargebacks to deal with. The call queues also seem to be favored. There are some calls from customers who are ready to apply, while the worst are customer service calls or inquiries about buying a $100,000 policy for $3.49, dismissing prices as low as $3.49. You also have to deal with a lot of mentally unstable and rude customers and talk about death on a regular basis

An Honest Experience

Pros

Fully remote work/ flexible work Projects The company is on the trajectory of digitalization for the last 7 years and so there is good work to be done.

Cons

People: There are some talented people. However, majority of the corporate culture is bureaucratic and the decisions are purely for self-interest rather for the interest of the company. We are talking downright “Mean Girls” type of Politics. Super cringy Processes There are two extremes, either there will be an overkill with processes or no guidelines at all. Culture Accountability and ethics, what does that mean? Hint: it doesn’t often exist or is overlooked. Inclusion and Diversity in IT was lacking; some BU’s were diverse though. Company tolerates bad employees behavior and does not always take the right course of action Promotions Be ready to continuously justify your promotions and even then, it may be a title one without a proper comp increase. People often tend to get promoted based on political alliances and favorability rather than actual merit. Management Some management is good but overall experience is that management makes decisions that aren’t often well thought of or yield a good outcome. Decision making is often in silo’s and not transparent. Warning: The sheer audacity to question or give feedback on quite literally dumb decisions can lead to a miserable work life. So success criteria is zip your mouth and put a blind fold over your eyes. Tip: make sure to take all your belongings at the office before resigning. Failure to do so will result in mysterious loss and non responsiveness from the company. That was the cherry on top.
