Pros

Top class IT infrastructure. Very aggressive work environment. People focus on getting things done. Multicultural workplace. If in technology, any system you work on will likely be handling a lot of money and that brings responsibility. Good exit opportunities. Not so good for lateral hires in tech, but takes care of its college hires (called NAPAs). Recommended for a 2-3 year stint only. You learn a lot, atleast in the beginning.

Cons

Work life balance goes for a toss, unless you are a team lead. The best work does not always come to India. Weekend support to ruin your weekend. The firm has too many local managers who are just not required, since work allocation is mostly done in NY. At GS, it's every man for himself and one can easily be thrown under the bus if not careful. Most people are high on IQ, but low on EQ. Salary is not so good to just ok, and it gets worse if you account for the long hours you will spend in office. Bonus is highly variable, don't count on it. Try to avoid work on their proprietary language (Slang). Visibility is a must for promotions, unless you are willing to wait forever. Underlevels employees when they join.

Pros

-Depending on your group, you can easily have a great work/life balance. -Pretty strong job security, the good developers generally do not stay very long so if you're skilled then you won't really have to worry much about it. -People are generally very nice. -Advancement is pretty much standard until you hit middle management so there's a lot of transparency in career progression.

Cons

-Pay is low for a software engineer job but above market for an IT support job, so it's not too bad if you have just a general engineering degree and not know a lot about programming. Don't be fooled into thinking that back office tech pay is going to be much better than other back office positions though. -Culture isn't that great to be honest. Since there isn't any profits/loss to show for performance, you'll encounter poor performing workers who just talks the talk. When things go wrong, it becomes a battle of egos and office politics instead of real honestly and working together. Level of trust is low between different teams because of it. It's very shocking how low the bar can go when simple programming issues gets turned into a magnitude of solving world peace.

Pros

Good name to put on resume, you got to learn some financial knowledge. Lots of training available if you like to learn education/personal investing/some celebrity talk.

Cons

I'll put this way, recruiting is like sales pitches, and I did not find the number anywhere close to what they advertised. Internal technology is terrible(almost nothing works reliably) and GS is not fixing them! architecture is also based on these so you will see some really really strange architecture. code base is absolutely the worse I've seen. You will find you have no transferable knowledge when you apply for new jobs. (Maybe you learned a few finance words and tons of politics tricks?) Office politics is nightmare. As a hardcore software engineer, I did not enjoy any minutes here, that's why I left.
