Do not work in a Goodwill Store unless it's your last option.

Pros

They do some charitable work that help out people throughout the area. You can be hired on here if you have a criminal background. You can move up if you stick around longer than everyone else. Not worth sticking around however because the pay is horrible for everyone.

Cons

The pay is terrible at every level. The employee turnover rate is the highest I've ever seen. Everyone is constantly afraid they will get fired, from managers on down. Nobody has the authority to do anything. Everyone is so afraid of doing something wrong no one ever takes responsibility for anything. The customers are horrible. Be prepared to clean up excrement from the changing rooms and haggle over a toy selling for a dollar.

Pros

-Helps the community (google how they help) -A simple job to start off working in (great for teens) -Very nice employees -Some managers/assistant managers can be very laid back -Very laid back environment sometimes (FYI it's minimum wage so you can't complain about the compensation since you know that's what you're signing up for) -Will work around a school schedule -Depending on your abilities, and position, you could help in other departments of the store. Gives you experience in other parts of the job as well. (ex: Someone might work as cashier one day then utility the next)

Cons

-Slowly turning into a for-profit business -Sometimes managers can be too demanding, forgetting we're working for barely nothing -Dust and pet dander (think carefully about employment here if you have allergies) -My location has a lot of teens working there and they can sometimes be very unprofessional or lazy -Customers can be hard to deal with at times (rude, ignorant, or...unhygienic)

Good people, bad management

Pros

Nice, caring professionals to work with.

Cons

Management is untouchable. GW keeps loosing truly good employees because of bad managers but they won't touch the managers. I have seen it happen over and over during the years I've worked for them. It's a shame - and it costs a lot for the organization.
