Pros

Provides jobs for people with disabilities. Pretty good benefits

Cons

High expectations with little pay. Dangerous work environment. I had gotten sand in my eyes three times in one week. Knives mixed in with clothes that I was sorting through. Back room is too small for the amount of donations received. There isn’t enough room to safely operate. Many people have gotten injured from the lack of room. There was a concerning amount of incident reports and corporate made it seem like it was all the employees faults, but for the most part it’s the fault of the store being too small of the amount of donations received, people in one area, and demands needed to be met. Drama filled environment. Employees will walk out and have their job the next day. Yell at other staff members. Slam equipment around when they are mad. Managent does not know how to talk to people with disabilities.

Pros

PTO balances rack up quickly. If you can manage to stay at the organization for long enough to qualify for tuition assistance, that's a good benefit.

Cons

(Keep in mind that these issues have either happened to me or I have directly witnessed them.) There is less and less accountability the further you go up the chain. Managers will yell at you and belittle you, and when you report them HR will say they can't do anything about it. Disability accommodations are not private, as managers will sometimes refuse to give you HR's information to contact them directly. While the hourly pay seems high, management will cut your hours to make it unlivable. Management will gossip about your confidential disability information to customers. Upper management enables toxic behavior and engages in catty, abusive tactics like shaming you over shared emails, yelling at you, gaslighting you (e.g. "that never happened, you're making it up, are you sure you didn't imagine that?" despite security footage showing that it indeed happened), and submitting false reports against you if they don't like you. If you report an abusive coworker to your manager, the manager will snitch on you to the coworker you reported. HR will wait a month or more to give you your PTO even if you decide to give 2 weeks notice upon quitting. Management will refuse your PTO requests even if you give adequate notice and a good reason. Management will approve your PTO requests, wait until after you take the day off, and then change the request to denied. Management will alter your hours to avoid giving you overtime. Management will create or neglect safety hazards (such as covering fire exits/extinguishers and first aid kits, leaving broken glass on the ground, etc) and blame it on you if trouble arises. You will be called in on your day off. Management will attempt to make you hate your coworkers. Management will neglect signs of heat stroke and accuse you of faking it when you pass out. If you complain about your job, your managers will shame you. Abuse is rewarded at Goodwill San Antonio.
