Pros

A high amount of opportunity to mine accounts and make good to great sales commission. The company offered profit sharing and solid health benefits. Grainger valued their employees and treated achievers like rockstars for a few years when I was employed.

Cons

The company became greedy. They laid off close to 200 knowledgeable, experienced, dedicated account managers and replaced them with wet-behind-the-ears and inexperienced sales agents. Stock has plummeted dramatically and layoffs continue.

Corporate Overhaul

Pros

Benefits PTO Profit Sharing (Although this has recently been scaled back considerably)

Cons

Very political corporate landscape. It's not what you know at Grainger, it's who you know. Good luck trying to get promoted because there isn't alot of help from management to get you where you want to go unless you are in tight with the right people. The mid year review and IDP processes are not very helpful either. Branches closing, jobs being either eliminated or outsourced, pay cuts, micro-management, etc...

Pros

The benefits provided by Grainger are excellent and among the best I've ever encountered. Also the job really isn't too demanding.

Cons

Recently went through a process of letting go of many territory sales representatives. In that time they let go of top talent and held onto certain individuals with family ties to higher positions. Though they said it would be based off of location, tenure and performance these were all lies. From Jim Ryan all the way down there were constant lies and it was a full slap in the face to many former employees.
