Used to be great

Pros

Great product line, #1 in the industry

Cons

Diversity is to the point of not choosing the best person for the job but the correct color to make Grainger look good. Honesty is not welcome or they will do their best to get rid of you. Low intelligent HR staff managing unqualified DSM’s to put successful and dedicated employees on PIP in order to get rid of them and lower their costs. Micromanaging of over 35 metrics per month in Salesforce makes it possible to get rid of anyone who challenges their manager. Nobody can be fully successful unless you have a quality DSM. They don’t like you they will get rid of you no matter how much your customers sing your praises to management and how great your sales are. there will always be something wrong. DSM’s will lie and set you up to get rid of you

Loss of employee focus

Pros

Secure company. Strong competitor in the industry. Opportunity for advancement.

Cons

Grainger used to be a company extremely focused on people. Over the past 5 years there has been a significant change in what is important to the company and unfortunately employee happiness is no longer a focus. In the past three years they have turned over a majority of their sales force. They create very unrealistic goals, pay lower than most in the industry, and micro manage their sellers through Sales Force.

Too many changes

Pros

It has been a great company for years, offering a stable financial/compensation package and a forward thinking management philosophy. They have a tremendous product portfolio and boast a robust logistics platform.

Cons

It has become stifled with political correctness and are moving towards a micro-management approach. It appears that upper management is content to lose top talent on a daily basis in order to achieve cost cutting goals. In the process of these moves, the company is losing focus on the very core of what made us relevant to the customers and we seem to be losing customer focus.
