Not what it once was....

Pros

Not much anymore. There is a lot of talent at Grainger, but more & more long-timers are being forced out.

Cons

More departments are being shipped overseas. It's all about the shareholders now - and at the expense of employees. Most of the perks are being stripped away - PST, wellness programs. Work - life balance for salary employees is non-existent. You're expected to work from home during your off hours- even on holidays & vacations. Too many metrics/reports that are not telling the real story.

Pros

-Work\Life Balance -Managers care deeply about their teams -GWW still has a great reputation externally -Pay and benefits are competitive

Cons

-Constant changes in strategic priorities -Political battles within leadership are openly aired and impact daily work -Leadership is all fighting for their own power, without considering what is best for Grainger -Limited cooperation across departments -Company is no longer growing. Sales are slipping and people are being shown the door.

Pros

Profit sharing and benefits are great. Company encourages AM's to use their PTO to avoid burnout. Work from home to your account package.

Cons

Only 40% of AM's hit goal solely due to unrealistic goal setting. First year you get a decent goal, make money and then you get the shaft in year 2. If you don't make goal you are then put under microscope and subjected to a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP). You can have success with all of your other accounts but if a few drag you down then good luck. Management will make you feel like you suck at your job. Pricing and terrible goal setting is what is causing this great turnover within the AM ranks. Low AM morale. Salary is also not on point with local cost of living, if I lived in the south I'd have a house by now but in the Bay Area I'm lucky make rent.
