Pros

The location in Denver is nice and close to the light rail, free snacks, some genuinely nice coworkers.

Cons

Honestly I could name several, but no company is perfect. The culture (or lack thereof) at Granicus is what makes it a mediocre place to work. In a tech hub like Denver where employees have a lot of options and opportunities elsewhere, it’s not surprising that Granicus can’t hold onto good people. High performers and high potential people don’t stick around because of the strange, uninspiring, and often lousy culture. HR is based in St Paul and openly talks about wanting the growth to happen in St Paul and not in Denver. They bad mouth others and boast about blocking career advancement for “people who don’t get along with HR” (literally a direct quote from a recruiter). They pat themselves on the back for posting articles about diversity and attending diversity events, but when asked about what our diversity strategy is, the recruiters have zero understanding or knowledge of the subject. The technology is outdated and inefficient so no one is excited about what we are creating, and there is zero room for technological innovation or creativity. When they are able to hire someone who is the “best and the brightest” - those people end up leaving because of boredom and frustration. In summary: it’s an okay company with a stale culture and a mediocre product. It might not be the worst place to work, but it is certainly not the best.

Pros

FTO and Benefits, remote first policy

Cons

I used to be proud to work for Granicus. The past 2 years that has no longer been the case. Granicus has been proud of paying "right in the middle" of the pay range but expecting its employees to go above and beyond. The past year or so they have moved to only hire from either Costa Rica or India for most positions, and have hired way more people in implementation, and support, before laying off US based employees, including subject matter and product experts. They no longer provide formal training to support staff, leaving it up to existing support agents to train new hires, without any compensation, or relief from metrics requirements. They just bought SimpleView, then laid off a large number of their employees, and longer term Granicus employees like myself so they could move our jobs overseas.

Pros

Started at the firm prior to COVID-19, and it was a blast! Lots of collaboration, open-minded coworkers, constant ideas and opinions floating around, holiday parties, free food and drinks every week, easy to connect and get information from other teams. I loved it. I knew I could stay here for a long time and still be happy. Then, COVID-19 hit, and I loved it! It was great to be able to work from home. Great insurance, friendly HR, awesome projects, everything was great!! But...

Cons

At some point in my 2 years there, I got a new boss and she was toxic. I learned how NOT to treat other people. For the longest time, I wondered what I did to make her dislike and bully me so much. I never figured it out. All my other team members and project leads appreciated me, but my boss felt otherwise. After a few months with her, I was terrified to say anything because I was afraid it would be misconstrued to something else. I remember during a 1:1, she told me I was terrible at my job and threatened to not promote me ever because I forgot to update a comma apostrophe to a straight apostrophe. And we had several meetings prior to our 1:1 talking about the same thing, wow! She made me feel so terrible after the 1:1, I was crying and I had a meeting afterwards. My coworker asked are you okay? I lied and said yeah, its "personal stuff", and she replied "good because you shouldn't cry because of work". After she said that, I realized it was time to look for a new job. I was worried there weren't any opportunities during covid, but I looked and found a new one instantly. I'm so much happier. I have a love and hate relationship with Granicus. I still have friends at the firm, but my boss made it such a terrible place to work. But thats life. You live and you learn. Last thing about my boss, when I had my last meeting with her. I said "it was great working with you or for you". She replied "well, you didnt work for me, you worked for the company". ........I smirked. P.S. It wasnt just me that she was condescending too, she also treated a couple of my other female team members the same way. One of them got thrown under the bus by her and now shes looking elsewhere. Also, I know the male coworkers were never treated the same way we were.
