Pros

- I was always paid on time (though not well) - If you are okay being mired in chaos, the work expectations tend to be low - Unless you have the misfortune of becoming the sole SME on something, work-life balance tends to be good. - Genuinely flexible "unlimited" FTO - Flexibility in your workday– never have to feel bad about stepping out to run an errand - Lovely coworkers, for the most part

Cons

- I am leaving because I got into this line of work with the goal of making government tech better– instead Granicus has managed to make me worse. - There is no product vision– only goals of a sale to some future private equity buyer - Upper leadership knows of issues with severe implications for data security, client privacy, legal compliance, and general stability of its applications, but takes no action until it reaches an absolute crisis. Even then, severe issues are still ignored or punted. - Wildly outdated technology is normalized. - There is no leadership goal of deliverying a good experience to customers, only doing barely enough so that clients continue paying. They take advantage of their monopoly in the space. - Leadership doesn't understand AI but has caught onto it as a buzzword and "cost optimization strategy." Instead of being thoughtful, they are randomly cramming AI into already-broken workflows. - Frequent layoffs with loose transition plans for all the work that needs to be carried forward. There's a goal to "geo-shift" to companies where salaries are lower, but Granicus neglects to train any of these new employees and expects them to just pick up work from somebody with years of experience. - Granicus pays wildly, wildly below market. If you're considering a job here, do not believe management when they say they will do a review at 6 months and raise your pay– that never happens. - No mentorship or training - As a woman of color in a white, male-dominated area, I was frequently talked down to and was told it was not my job to think or talk in meetings even though both of those are essential to my role.

Relocation is imminent, but can a leopard change its spots?

Pros

Granicus was an interesting company in an interesting industry. You felt like you were doing some good working here, and your days were unlikely to ever be boring. We had a strong mission that we were all passionate about. But Granicus was sold to K1, and is no longer that company. It now has different management and most likely a different culture, mission, and level of passion. Any pros mentioned in reviews older than a couple of months are therefore irrelevant, but hopefully there are different pros. I believe there's a good view of the mountains from the office in Denver, and the fact it's near light rail seems like the major highlight in all the postings for the jobs that everyone currently has in San Francisco. Another pro may be it looks like a lot of people will start in or around the same time, which could be good for company culture.

Cons

Granicus was acquired by K1, and its HQ is in the process of relocation from San Francisco to Denver. This is going to be a completely different company very soon, with new management and maybe 50% completely new employees (at least). A lot of employee expertise has already walked out the door and more will follow, but the new owners don't care as they seem confident they can hire adequate replacements at a significant discount. Therefore, every review up until the past 6 weeks is irrelevant to anyone applying now. However, I think anything in the past 6 weeks is relevant as a leopard doesn't change its spots... Who knows what decisions these guys will be making a year, 2 years from now... They've already proven they think anyone (everyone) is expendable. I wouldn't ask for a raise much if I was you:). Actually, I think if you're starting within a few months of the date of this review, you're in for a rocky time (pun intended), unless you like being in situations where everyone is relearning everything all at once. What I think will happen is the new owners will work you hard for as cheaply as possible for a couple of years, then you'll be sold again. So maybe two years from now is the better time to join. The core mission of this company is still valuable inspite of who may be running it currently.

Good Mission, Poor Direction

Pros

The mission of this company is great and the products this company offers are world class. I truly believe Graniucs' software/services do good for citizens The people you work with day to day here are great

Cons

This is no longer a long term place to stay. Granicus used to care a lot about its tenured employees, but has now hurt themselves by letting experienced, tenured employees go to save a quick buck. This has put heavy stress on the remaining employees causing more turnover and a downward spiral.
