Granite has gone downhill and has no signs of changing its ways. Not a good place to go to start your career.

Pros

If you are in the right area on the right project, Granite can be good, if you don't have a family, fit in the clique, don't value long term owner relations and are willing to sacrafice your free time.

Cons

Not enough value on employees. The company has deteriorated a lot since upper management has changed. They have tried to restructure, (several times) but that has not been beneficial. In the past (over 10 years ago) the upper managment cared about the employees and that is not the current culture. There has been too much promotion of the Texas region personnel that did not have the same employee focus as in the past.

Pros

Good industry reputation, good place for recent college grads to develop some experience, company has strong presence in road work projects. In general, project owners enjoy working with Granite and the company is seen as a preferred vendor for public works projects.

Cons

Management is a good old boy network with a strong top down management culture. Carrier opportunities are determined by popularity with management not performance or contribution. Experienced professionals will find their "non-Granite" experience and knowledge is not accepted by management.
