Challenging but fun start up

Pros

- Amazing people team. While working remotely for this company I had fun with online socials and had the opportunity to come in to visit the office for global gatherings. - You get given a lot of responsibilities and ownership. - Get given everything you need to support your work (VR headsets, at home work set up etc). - Starting to hire more in leadership which is helping build a good structure for a startup that has started rapidly growing - Transparent with things like runway or funding rounds and you can schedule time with C level executives (like one to one time with the CEO and CTO)

Cons

- Communication and feedback can be unclear - It is an engineering led company which would not suit someone who wasn't comfortable with challenging ideas, and it can take time to build trust between designers and engineers - There currently isn't a design lead although there are plans to hire for this role - You get thrown into the deep end and there's a lot of independent learning needed to succeed

Subject: Acknowledging Your Feedback and Inviting Collaboration for Improvement Dear Employee, I hope this message finds you well. I came across your candid review on Glassdoor, and I want to express my sincere gratitude for taking the time to share your thoughts and concerns about your experience here at Gravity Sketch. Firstly, I want to acknowledge the positive aspect you highlighted – the dedication and kindness of your colleagues. It's heartening to hear that despite the challenges you've outlined, you value the people you work with. I also want to express my regret for any negative experiences you've encountered. We take your feedback seriously and are committed to creating a workplace that is not only high-performing but also inclusive and supportive. Your mention of a "boys club" and lapses in communication within our leadership team is something we take to heart. As a team, we are constantly learning and growing, and your insights serve as an invaluable guide in our journey towards improvement. We genuinely believe that a diverse and respectful work environment is crucial for both personal and professional growth as well as essential for us to deliver a truly innovative product. To address these concerns, I’d like to invite you, along with your fellow colleagues, to our weekly Leadership Open Office sessions (always open to all). This is an open forum where we encourage open and honest discussions about the challenges we face as a company. Your input is highly valuable, and we want to ensure that every employee feels heard and supported; I suggest we make this the topic of this week’s session. In addition to the open office hours, I’d like to extend an invitation for a coffee conversation with myself and any other leader you’d like to loop in. I am eager to better understand your perspective and explore specific ways we can enhance our workplace culture. Please Slack me directly or put a hold in my calendar. Your willingness to engage in these discussions is essential, and I believe that through open communication, we can collectively work on continuing to foster a positive and inclusive environment at Gravity Sketch. Thank you once again for sharing your thoughts. I look forward to the opportunity to connect with you and other team members to learn, grow, and make Gravity Sketch an even better place to work. Warm regards, CEO, Gravity Sketch

Pros

- Interesting product with lots of cool real-life use cases - No micromanagement - you're responsible for your work, which means you are accountable for it but also given the trust and necessary resources to get it done. - People take their work seriously, but don't take *themselves* too seriously. We laugh a lot. - Work-life balance is actually a thing, as is looking after people's wellbeing. I've been through a few life events in my time here, and have always been encouraged to put health, family etc. first. The company has grown massively since I started, but the culture that drew me to them in the first place is still at the heart of it. Special mention to the CEO who is endlessly dedicated to his work but always makes time to be accessible and listen to people, even if it's their first day.

Cons

- As it's a start-up environment, stakes are high, change is ever present, and you can't really "coast". This isn't necessarily a problem, but you need to be okay with always adapting and improving and being kept on your toes, as that's what keeps the company going.
