Pros

Great people in the mid and lower levels making things happen. Strong teams working with limited direction are making progress to move the company forward. Ownership willing to make investments, but not necessarily willing to understand the roadmap to success.

Cons

Took their eye off strong brand and has let competition erode market share - now playing catch-up. Sales-centric company that looks to 'strategic' customers to tell them what is needed next. Very limited internal focus on operations, very closed group at the top driving the train and those getting the work done are the last to know where their headed. 150 yr old company operates on tribal basis and is wondering why processes that worked 10 years ago don't deliver the same results today.

Pros

Mid-level managers were quality people and provided training and support to the network of staff.

Cons

Senior level managers are on the buddy system, allowing some to have non-professional relationships with subordinates. Also, some didn't know any details of how roles were performed by their team and no desire to learn to support team.
